Cohort Retention

The share of a customer cohort that returns over time.

Definition

Cohort retention groups customers by first-visit month and tracks how many return in subsequent months. For restaurants on aggregators or with loyalty data, this is a leading indicator of menu and service health. Falling 30-day retention almost always precedes a revenue decline.
